Majority of real engineering materials are heterogeneous and multicomponent mixtures, separate components of which possess large diversity of properties on various scales of heterogeneity. Evaluation of mechanical behaviour of them has been the focus of much research over the last decades and various theories and approaches of different complexity are used for characterization purposes.

Implementation of the particulate solid analysis strategy implies the evaluation of the forces occurring during the binary interaction of two particles. Later this contact behaviour applies for all particulate solid system

The dissertation consists of introduction, 4 chapters, conclusions, references and two annexes.

The introduction reveals the investigated problem, importance of the thesis and the object of research and describes the purpose and tasks of the paper, research methodology, science novelty, practical significance of results. The introduction ends in presenting the authors publications on the subject of defended dissertation, offering the material of made presentations in conference and defending the structure of the dissertation.

Chapter 1 describes revised literature for heterogeneous structural analysis by use analytical and numerical methods.

Chapter 2 describes discretization of particulate solid structure in to representative volume. Proposed mathematical model fornormal contact of two particles in weak matrix analysis and verification with FE model

Chapters 3 and 4 describe application of the new discrete element for the simplified eighteen particle system and typical asphalt mix of the Marshall sample.

4 articles focusing on the subject of the discussed dissertation are published: one article in the Thomson ISI register; one article in DB approved by CSL; one article – in the conference material in Thomson ISI data base; one article in material reviewed international conference. 10 presentations on the subject have been presented in conferences at national and international level.
