Description

This scientific research summarizes tudies performed during two years of the project No VAT 12053 “Innovative regeneration methods of architectural heritage: Panemunė castles”, which was conducted by a group of VGTU scientists and sponsored by the Research Council of Lithuania. The detailed research and summative methodological results on one castle from this area – Panemunė Castle (Vytėnai Castle or Gelgaudai Castle) – will be generalized in an upcoming academic monograph.

The paper introduces texts and illustrations that reflectdifferentstudies carried out in fields of architecture, history and theoretical studies of arts, territorial planning, and technological engineering approaches. However, all of them have one common objective, i.e. to reveal factors with the greatest impact on adjustment of brick castles, located on the right bank of Nemunas river between Kaunas and Jurbarkas, for contemporary needs. It is expected that the outline of the developed methodological study will be useful for researchers examining management and usability options of other brick building complexes of high cultural value.
