The dissertation investigates the issues of capacity and quality of services in heterogeneous cellular networks, when load balancing is applied. The main objects of research involve load balancing of users voice and data traffic. Load balancing is especially important topic in nowadays telecommunications, when amount of tranferred data is increasing drastically. Multidimensional and flexible methodolody allows to control users‘ generated traffic effectively, at the same time reducing the load of network and investments for capacity expansion. The main purpose of dissertation is exploring the opportunities of extended voice and data load balancing. Also, it focuses on impact on customers and network.

The first task of the thesis includes: the analysis of voice traffic distribution and balancing, when load is balanced based on inter system load balancing strategies. The second task is related to growing data traffic from the users, which causes an overload of cells. The contol of data volume is organised applying differentiated services based on QoS and inter-layer load balancing.

The dissertation consists of introduction, 3 chapters, general conclusions, references and list of authors publications, annexes, summary in english.

The introduction reveals the investigated problem, importance of the thesis and the object of research and describes the purpose and tasks of the thesis, research methodology, scientific novelty, the practical significance of results and defended statements. At the end of introduction the list of author’s publications and the structure of dissertation are presented. Chapter 1 reviews used literature. The conception and need of traffic balancing are discussed and the strategies used for balancing are deeply overviewed. In addition, the concrete methods used for voice and data management are analysed. Chapter 2 analyzes the distribution of voice traffic, based on collected metadata measurements in commercial network. Also, contains obtained characteristics. The impact of load balancing for customers and network is provided. Chapter 3 reveals the importance of QoS priority for data services, under the same and different radio environment. In case of inter-layer load balancing the model representing femto zones is introduced. Service level evaluation results are presented, when femto zone is used for load balancing in live heterogeneous cellular networks.

7 articles focusing on the subject of dissertation are published, 4 of them in peer-reviewed scientific publications in other international databases, 3 in conference proceedings. 7 presentations on the subject were presented  in conferences at national and international level.
