The aim and scope of this book is to give the knowledge about principles of sustainable urban planning, methods and measures to attain sustainability and measure it in scientific way. Sustainable development is a popular term assigned to many different ideas from different fields of knowledge. This book is intended for students of engineer, architecture and urban planning specializations therefore economical and other factors which are not directly related to physical urban form are excluded. In countries with high and moderate economic development level urban development is in complicated situation today when the growth and the existing urban structure cannot be sustained any longer. Local governments do not have money for growth and even to sustain existing infrastructure. The methods of planning described in this book are contributing to urban sustainability, more practical use and maintenance of urban environment. Also general description of the methods of modern urban analysis is given.
