The dissertation deals with the optimization of the duration of engineering measures and temporary traffic light signals in road work areas. The aim of the dissertation is to provide recommendations for the selection of speed reduction measures and the principles of traffic organization in order to increase traffic safety in road work areas and to develop a methodology for modeling vehicle flows by reducing economic damage due to time lag.

The dissertation consists of an introduction, three chapters, general conclusions, recommendations, lists of used literature and the author's publications on the topic of the dissertation, and 6 appendices.

The introduction discusses the research problem, the relevance of the work, analyzes the object of research, formulates the aim and objectives of the work. The developed research methodology, the scientific novelty of the work and its significance, the defended statements are also described. At the end of the introduction, the publications and conference papers published in the author's scientific publications on the topic of the dissertation, the structure of the dissertation and the thanks are presented. The first chapter provides concise information about the Lithuanian road network, its development and maintenance, the reasons for the emergence of work areas on the roads and their impact on traffic safety. The analysis of traffic accidents in road work areas and the effectiveness of applied engineering measures are also presented. At the end of the chapter, conclusions are formulated and the tasks of the dissertation are specified. The second chapter examines the determinants of road traffic, the behavior of road users and the importance of human factors for traffic safety and traffic conductivity. Brief information on traffic permeability models used in road work areas is provided and the conclusions of the chapter are formulated. The third chapter analyzes the experimental studies and results performed in road works areas in order to determine the speeds of vehicles and the effectiveness of measures used in road works areas to reduce speed. Also, the optimal durations of traffic light signals used for road works are determined, their efficiency results are compared, over the prism of time delay, with the applied traffic light signal durations by performing real observations of work areas. Disadvantages of traffic organization on highways and highways are analyzed. The possibilities of using the duration of traffic light signals used in work areas are analyzed and their economic evaluation is performed. Conclusions and recommendations are formed at the end of the chapter.

8 scientific articles were published on the topic of the dissertation: three – in scientific journals included in the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science database, one – in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. 4 reports on the topic of the dissertation were read at scientific conferences in Lithuania and other countries.
