The dissertation analyses the gravel road dust problem, whitch emergent during road maintenence using dustiness reducing materials. The main object of research is the gravel road dust suppressants interaction with gravel roads. Gravel road is an important service sector. Dust reduction of gravel roads is an important thing for roadside vegetation growth (dust blocks the pores and plant growth is stopped) and living next to peoples health. The main aim of work is to find effective concentration of the mixture, the less damaging the gravel road environment. In the dissertation also aims to investigate the impact of the proposed mixture to roadside vegetation and the amount of chloride in the cover of gravel road and at the roadside making the transverse profile.

The work deals with several main tasks: the efficiency of gravel roads dust suppressants and its impact on gravel road environment. The tasks were formulated according to analysed problem and finding information in foreign countries, tasks were relate to investigations carried out by the results and with the simulation of results obtained.

The dissertation consists of an introduction, six chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, list of references and list of the author’s scientific publication on  the dissertation topic and 1 addendum.

The introductory chapter discusses the research problem, topicality of the work, describe the object of research, formulates aim and tasks of the work, describes re- search methodology and scientific novelty of the work, practical value of the work’s results and defended propositions. Finally, the introduction presents the author’s publications and conference reports on the dissertation topic and structure of the scientific work.

The first chapter is intended for review of the literature. It contains information about the rise and the dynamics of dust particles, dust suppressants, its usage, the common principles of the application and working of dust  suppressants, effectiveness and environmental impact, materials used in the world, particulate matter scatter modeling. At the end of this chapter are formulated conclusions and tasks. The second–fourth chapters present the research methodology, the results and analysis, conclusions. The fifth chapter presents the methodology of modeling and simulation results comparison with investigation results and conclusions. The sixth chapter describes the suggested environmental consideration.

7 articles are published on the dissertation topic: two – in ISI Web of Science refereed journal, one – in conference material entered in ISI Proceedings, three – in reviewed Lithuanian conferences materials, one – in not reviewed Lithuanian conferences material. 2 conference reports were made at international and 5 at conferences in Lithuania on the topic of dissertation.
