Miestų transporto srautų modeliavimas/Modelling of urban transport flows

Vytautas Grigonis

Study book (in Lithuanian)

Private transport is one of the key issues influencing the life quality in urban areas. With regard to the concept of sustainability, one has to search for facilities to arrange local transport and land-use as the basis of activities and life and with the intention of raising the life quality, and with regard to ecological, economic, and social dimensions which include the intergenerational dimension. Construction or reconstruction of urban transport infrastructure faces a dilemma: What option is better? Modelling such options is the best way for predicting of a future situation and forming strategies for Lithuanian cities.

Different models are useful to predict key trends in the transport sector, e g influences of land-use changes on mobility patterns. These issues are very important for the substantiation of transport infrastructure development in Lithuanian urban areas.

Modelling a traffic and land-use phenomenon includes different tasks, e g problem formulation, development of database structures, gathering basic data for the model, developing the model and modelling technique, tuning and validation of the selected modelling method, using the model itself, as well as the evaluation and dissemination of modelling results. Since the transformation of an urban structure and the transport infrastructure is a long-term and complex activity, it is essential to rate the development alternatives according to potentiality and the realization of possibilities and to map out master plans.
