Description

The refurbishment of buildings built during the last decades and their environments is becoming an increasingly important problem. Apartment buildings constitute the majority of these buildings and, therefore, their refurbishment is an important problem. In Lithuania, about 96 % of apartment buildings were built before 1993 and about 30 000 of these buildings require modernisation (Daugiabučių... 2010). They are inefficient, environmentally-unfriendly, consume a great amount of power and emit a significant amount of greenhouse gases.

The main aim of the dissertation is to offer a method for rating the sustainable refurbishment of apartment buildings in urban neighbourhoods of Lithuania. The method is based on actual systems for rating the sustainability of buildings used in foreign countries and aimed at increasing the efficiency of refurbishing residential apartment buildings. The dissertation consists of the Introduction, four main chapters, the Conclusion, References and a list of the relevant works by the author, as well as six appendices.
