Description

Subject of the research of this dissertation is the interaction of tradition and novation in contemporary Lithuanian sacred architecture. The objective of the research is to analyze the significance of traditions and innovations in contemporary Lithuanian sacred architecture. To achieve this objective, the following tasks have been raised:

1. To identify the causes of historical continuation and causes of changes in the development of sacred architecture.

2. To introduce the typology of changes occurring in the development of sacred architecture. To highlight the phenomena of continuation of tradition, innovation and interaction of different periods in contemporary Lithuanian sacred architecture.

3. To identify the meaning of metaphysical substances in sacred building architecture.

4. To discuss the peculiarity of interaction between architecture and art in Roman Catholic shrine buildings.

5. To highlight the ways for artistic form creation in Roman Catholic sacred buildings.

Work consists of introduction, three chapters, conclusions, list of literature used for the research and author‘s publications on the subject of dissertation.
